Maintenance free vinyl fencing

About maintenance free

When vinyl was first utilized in outdoor living products in the mid-1980s, it was primarily used in front porch railings and other decorative applications. As vinyl products developed, vinyl fencing was reinforced and strengthened. Today, it's strong enough to be used on front porches, high-rise apartment balconies and stadium guardrails with the same confidence as traditional wood and/or metal railings.

Vinyl fencing that is available now has been strengthened and made resistant to the elements.  Inserting non-corrosive aluminum in the top and bottom rail strengthens today’s vinyl railings. The development of UV additives in vinyl prevents the sun's rays from blistering, cracking or discoloring the material. These improvements make vinyl fencing not only durable, but virtually maintenance-free.

Keeping your vinyl fence looking like new takes very little effort compared to the maintenance of a wood fence. All the maintenance vinyl fencing needs is a spray with the garden hose. If it has been exposed to a lot of damp weather, an additional wash with a mild detergent may be needed to prevent mold and mildew. Wood fencing will have to be sanded, painted, caulked, scraped and replaced, or it will deteriorate over time. Simply put, vinyl fence systems do not deteriorate over the years.

The initial expense for vinyl fencing products can be twice as much as for a wood fence. In as little as five years, when you factor in maintenance costs, a wood fence will cost as much, if not more, as vinyl fencing. Considering the maintenance factor, it's not surprising to find more people selecting the convenience and durability of vinyl fencing systems.
