About vinyl gate

Similar to a wooden gate, vinyl gates are assembled with hardware that comes in a variety of styles and finishes. Hardware is attached with screws to vinyl fences.  You don't fasten vinyl fence hardware by nailing it, like with a wood fence.  The hardware parts are for both types of fences are generally the same and serve identical purposes.

For example, hinges are used to keep a gate fastened to one side of the fence allowing the gate to swing open and closed. Typical hinges are made of stainless steel or aluminum; these materials won't rust from being exposed to the elements. Gate hinges are best understated or primarily hidden, but are available in many styles.

Gate latches secure the free side of the gate to the fence. Primarily manufactured of stainless steel, but since they are a highly visible element of the gate, they come in a variety of designs. Many of these latches have locks with keys; magnetic latches are also available.  For added security, you can get sturdy drop rod latches. The rod attached to the gate slides into a metal-lined tube mounted in the ground. It adds an extra level of security to the gate.

Although there are many similarities between wood and vinyl gate hardware, be sure to purchase hardware compatible with your new vinyl gate, and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
